Montana- Draft Forest Plan Available For Public Comment and Review

The Forest Service has announced the release their Draft Revised Land Management Plans (Forest Plan) and Draft Environmental Impact Statements (DEIS) for the Kootenai National Forest for public review and comment. A 90-day public comment period starts on January 6, 2012, (with publication of the Notice of Availability in the Federal Register). Comments will be accepted through April 5, 2012.

The Forest Service is scheduling public open houses at local offices in January, where Kootenai National Forest staff will be available to provide information on the forest plan revision process and how to submit comments on the draft documents. Planned dates and locations are as follows:

  • January 24, 4:00 - 7:00 pm: Libby - Ponderosa Room
  • January 26, 4:00 - 7:00 pm: Eureka - High School
  • January 31, 4:00 - 7:00 pm: Troy - Senior Center
  • February 2, 4:00 - 7:00 pm; Trout Creek - the Lakeside Motel Conference Room

The documents are available for download and review online at www.fs.fed.us/kipz. These documents are also available for viewing at all of the Ranger District Offices and the Supervisor's Office.
