CPSC, Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. Announce Recall of 2007 KFX50 and KFX90
All -Terrain Vehicles.
The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Product: Kawasaki 2007 model year KFX50 and KFX90.
Units: A total of 9,100.
Distributor: Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A., of Irvine, CA.
Hazard: On some eligible units, the handlebar holder, tie-rod adjustment, and tie-rod end nuts may not have been tightened to the proper torque. Operation of the vehicle can cause the nuts to loosen resulting in a loss of steering control and creating the potential for a crash resulting in injury or death.
Incidents/Injuries: Kawasaki has received 5 warranty claims and 5 unconfirmed reports of nuts loosening, including one report of minor injury.
Description: The recall involves Kawasaki 2007 model year KSF50B7F (KFX50) and KSF90A7F (KFX90) All Terrain Vehicles. These are 50cc and 90cc models designed for use by operators 6 and older (KFX50) and 12 and older (KFX90). They are available in Lime Green or White, and have "Kawasaki" and "KFX50" or "KFX90" on the sides of the bodywork below the handlebars.
Sold by: Kawasaki dealers nationwide from August 2006 through December 2006.
What to do: Consumers should stop using the ATV immediately and contact their local Kawasaki dealer to make arrangements for repair. The correction will consist of tightening the nuts to the proper torque.
