Photos

Everyone likes to share photos with others, so upload lots of them.  An important thing to note:  Each photo upload can not exceed 5 MB. Here is a brief tutorial on viewing and uploading photos.

Main User Gallery.gif

Once you log into the site, click on My Photos from the User Menu in order to get started with the Photos applicationYou will come to the above screen showing you your own User Gallery. You can also get here by clicking on My Gallery from the menu at the top of every photo gallery page. This page will show you all the albums you have created and photos you have uploaded.  From this screen you can create and delete albums, upload photos, sort your photos, and many other things.  You can also go to the Main Gallery where all of the categories, albums, and photos for the entire site are accessible. For the purpose of this tutorial, we will focus on your personal gallery and uploading photos.

Creating Albums

Photos are located in Albums within Galleries on the site. When you upload photos you must have an album to place them in.  There are two kinds of albums on the site: public and personal. Public albums are those in which you can place photo uploads from the categories on the main page. Your personal albums are created within your personal user gallery.  These albums must be created by you before you can place photos in your personal gallery. In order to create an album, click on the Create/order albums link.

From here you will be able to see all of the albums you have in your personal gallery.  It will be blank the first time you view this, and you will need to create at least one album in order to place your photos in your personal gallery.  Click on the New button and it will place the words New album on the name line just as you see in the above screenshot. You will want to delete this name and replace it with whatever name you choose.  Once you hit Apply modifications you will see the name of the album you just created in the album list above. The next step is to set the properties for the album you just created. To do this, click on Modify my albums.

Modify Your Albums

Once you have created your new album, you will need to take steps to set the properties. Click on Modify my albums to set these properties or edit them in the future.

Update Album.gif

This screen is where you will set or change all the settings for a particular album.  First, select the album by using the drop-down list on the top right of the screen. If this is your first album, then it will already be selected.  You can enter the different name for the album if you want and then you can enter a brief description of the album if you choose. The album keyword will be search-able from other pages on the site, so think about what you want it to be.  For example, you could name it Moab if this album contains the photos of your Moab trip.  If someone is looking at your album and they click on your keyword, the site will show all albums with the keyword Moab in them. The Permissions section is very important.  First you choose who can view your album.  There are three settings for this:

  • Everybody- Everybody allows anybody who visits the site to see this album.
  • Me Only- This setting allows nobody other than you to see this album.
  • Membership (Registered Only)- This setting allows only members registered on the site to see your album.

If you set an album password it will allow only people who have the password to view a certain album.

The next settings allow you to set whether or not visitors can post comments about your photos, and rate your photos. Once you are finished with these settings be sure the click Update Album to make the changes take effect.
