Groups

Creating groups is a great way to connect with people with common interests, and, in a community like this, there will be many different groups.  If there is not a group for what you are looking for, then create one!  This tutorial will walk you through the basics of the groups application.

Main Groups Page

This is the main groups page.  To get to this page you can go to the User Community menu item and click on User Groups. You can also get to this page by clicking on My Groups from your User Menu. This will take you to "your groups" and you can click on the Main Groups Page link to take you to the main groups page.  Once you are here, you can choose a category and browse those groups, search for a group, create a group, and view your groups you have created or joined.

When you select a group, you will come to the Main Group Page.  From here you can choose to join this group or view group members, group bulletins, group events, and group forum. You can also see who the manager is.  If you are a member of this group already, you will have some other choices, including messaging the manager of the group.  Don't hesitate to click on all of the options to see what they do.

Creating a Group

When you click on the Create a Group link, you will see this screen.  You must choose a group category and a group type for your group.  There are three types of groups you can choose.  These types are Open to All, Approval to Join, and Invite to Join.

  • Open to All- This means anyone can join your group without having to be approved to join by the moderator.
  • Approval to Join- This choice requires the moderator of the group to approve each person who requests to join this group.
  • Invite to Join- This choice allows only the users who are invited by the moderator to join the group.

Once you select the group type, you will be required to name the group, and you have the choice to write a description of the group.  You can also upload a logo for your group.  If you do not upload a logo, the site will give your group a default logo, and you can change the logo later.
