Hatfield-McCoy Trail System

When you think of your ultimate off road riding adventure, what comes to mind? For us, we like to imagine riding on uncharted terrain, somewhere we haven’t been before. A place that takes us away from the threaded business of life and into a “jungle” of sorts. Basically, we like leaving our cell phones and daily essentials behind to enjoy a back road adventure.

Hatfield-McCoy Trail SystemNot so long ago, we ventured into one of these uncharted terrains. The terrain itself has been on the map for many years, but we are just now finding out about it because this place is across a country for us. What place is it you ask? Well, how many of you have heard of the Hatfield McCoy trail system in West Virginia? How many of you have been there? For us newbies, our first time was a majestic adventure that took us into an unknown world of forests, changing terrains, and beautiful scenery, all of which captures your imagination more and more with every curve of the trail.

Hatfield-McCoy Trail SystemThe Hatfield McCoy trails sprung up from a fantastic idea. This idea consisted of having a trail system that encompassed an entire state! Yes, the state of West Virginia actually manages the trail system there, and they currently have 9 different sections that are spread out around the state. Eventually, the leaders of this expansive trail system want to interconnect all of the trail systems together in order to make what is possibly one of the largest cohesive trail systems on Earth!

One of the neatest things about this trail system is the fact that most of it is run on private land. What that means is that the land owners in West Virginia are nice enough to “lend” out their property to be maintained for trail riding by the state and give fellow off roaders the ability to drive on their land and enjoy everything that the state has to offer. What awesome people! Put all of the aforementioned information together, and what do you get?? One awesome place to ride!

Speaking of riding, that’s what everyone loves to do here. Riding your dirtbike, quad, ATV, UTV, or Jeep can be an everyday affair. With almost a thousand miles of trails and more being made everyday, Hatfield McCoy has something for everyone.

Hatfield-McCoy Trail System

Riding the trails is like something out of a movie… Once you traverse one mountain pass lined with trees you go right into the next one, and so on and so forth, all the while your jaw is being held up with the chinstrap of your helmet. Personally, I haven’t had this much fun traversing trails in my life, particularly because we don’t have a full system like this one on the west coast. Yes, there are trails on the west coast, but nothing that is as well maintained as the Hatfield McCoy trail system.

Just when you think the trails couldn’t get any better, we take a break at a local stop in town and get the chance to meet some of the locals. Man, talk about awesome people! Everyone is willing to chat it up with their latest riding stories, and the hospitality here is unlike any other. It seems like every resident in West Virginia would be willing to give you the shirt off their back just to keep you comfortable. Just awesome.

Hatfield-McCoy Trail SystemWe highly recommend planning a trip to this unforgettable destination. Ask anyone in the West Virginia area, and you will hear countless stories about people enjoying the Hatfield McCoy trails.
