When Kawasaki asked what we wanted to test this time around, we had work on the mind! That lead to a Mule Pro showing up, and more specifically, a Mule-Pro FXT. This is not our first rodeo with the Mule Pro-FXT and its rather transformative feature. The redesigned Mule Pro was brought into the side-by-side/UTV world in 2015, complete with all new…everything. It has a torquey three-cylinder 812cc engine, a cab that holds 3 or 6 people depending on the configuration, and travel making it a comfy ride for work and play. There is plenty of storage everywhere, and it comes with the largest carbo bed available when in 3 person mode. It is rated to tow 2000 lbs., haul 1000 lbs., and can carry a bunch of “stuff” around the job site, farm, or hunting area in its tilting cargo bed. Basically, it is a workaholic, but Kawasaki designed to be comfortable and capable for trails also. I have used it for both in a controlled setting, so know I am excited to put it to work on a regular basis.
It has a tilting cargo bed which expands to the largest cargo bed available when the FXT is in three person mode.
It can transform from a 3-person to 6-person configuration.
The moment the Mule Pro-FXT arrived, I took it for a little spin around the ATV ESCAPE headquarters. It is so quiet and comfortable. The feature that is the jaw-dropper is the ability to change the Mule-Pro FXT from a 3-seat to a 6-seat UTV in less than a minute. Is this incredible engineering feat, truly feasible in the real world environment? That is what I want to find out. I also want to figure out if such a large and wide side-by-side make for a sure-footed animal on the trail, or more of a beached whale? Keep an eye on our Long Term Test to find out what we find.
