OHV Route and Area Designation Process

Over the next few years, the national forests in California will complete an inventory of all the roads, trails, and areas used by off-highway vehicles, identify a system of routes from that inventory, and designate those routes/areas for off-highway vehicle use. A Memorandum of Intent between the Forest Service (Region 5), the Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Commission and the Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division of the California State Parks and Recreation established a strategy to guide the designation process and sets a schedule for completion.

Klamath National Forest Seeks Comments for
Travel Management Funding

YREKA, California, February 27, 2009 - The Klamath National Forest has applied for funding through the state of California to assist with costs related to sustaining long-term Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) use on the national forest.  The state OHV Recreation Division is making funds available for projects on public lands, but public land managers must give the public an opportunity to comment on their grant applications for state funds.

The Klamath is requesting funding that will facilitate planning OHV use in the Humbug Creek area, and in a 52-acre area north of County Road A-12.  If awarded, those funds would plan the development of future projects that would help preserve the natural and cultural resources while sustaining OHV use into the future.  The Forest has also applied for funds to assist with law enforcement activities related to OHV recreation to ensure public safety.

Preliminary grant applications can be viewed at the Forest Supervisor's office in Yreka or on-line at http://134.186.25.134/User/home.aspx.  The public review and comment period is open from March 3 through April 6, 2009.
