Welcome The First Wave of 2019 Textron's
Textron Off Road is set to release 3 waves of vehicles for the 2019 model year, and, recently, the first wave revealed several new vehicles. Headlining that release was the ATV lineup with the all-new Alterra 570 and reimagined Alterra 700. In addition to these new models, Textron revealed that the Alterra 300, 700, 700 XT, MudPro 700 LTD, and TBX 700 ATV’s are all carrying over for the new year with BNG’s (Bold New Graphics). For the kiddos out there, the Textron Alterra 90, DVX 90, and 150 are staying in the lineup and, again, feature BNG’s to keep the color schemes fresh.
At launch, the all-new Alterra 570 is available in 3 flavors – 570, 570 EPS, and 570 XT. All 3 feature a 545cc, single cylinder engine that features closed-loop EFI tuning. Ensuring that the bumps and jumps are properly soaked up are 4 shocks that feature five-position adjustable springs. 10 inches of travel is found front and rear, and there is 11 inches of ground clearance on this quad.
Interestingly, the Base and EPS models don’t feature a fully locking front differential; instead they have what Textron calls the Rapid Traction System (RTS). The premium XT model gets a fully locking front differential in the 4WD system, called EL4 technology. No matter which model we look at, the switch to engage this 4WD system and optional locking front diff is located on the right handlebar of the XT model. This is done in an effort to ensure that both of these are an on-the-fly 4WD systems with little engagement effort needed, keeping a rider’s eyes on the trail and focused on what is ahead.
From the looks of this machine, it is built for both work and play. Dual a-arms all the way around will keep it riding well and stable whether towing or tackling log transitions. Hydraulic disc brakes with single-piston caliper provide the stopping power to slow down up to 1050 lbs of trailer weight. Plus, 100 lbs on the front steel rack and 200 lbs on the rear steel rack with unlimited tie down points allow riders to seriously utilize this machine for work and play activities.
In addition to the Alterra 570 lineup, the Alterra 700 lineup sees a host of welcomed engine upgrades, making it more torquey down low with better throttle response. To do this, Textron reworked the camshaft profile, which in effect reduced rotational mass by 30 percent. They also narrowed the engine by 1.7 inches and reduced the overall weight of the power plant by 12.4 pounds.
Both of these machines feature a CVT transmission. The Alterra 700 features a new direct-driven clutch with retuned dynamics to offer better performance and more durability.
On the Side-by-Side lineup, Textron has kept everything the same for the 2019 model year, so far. The Wildcat Trail, Sport, and X, along with the Stampede, Stampede 4, and Prowler 500 all carryover and feature BNG’s. Look for more details on additional side-by-side announcements as additional waves of vehicles from Textron Off Road are released.
