4-Seat Honda Talon Is Here! Welcome The Talon 1000X-4 Models2019 Honda Talon 1000X-4 Preview

Honda Uncovers The Talon 1000X-4 & Talon 1000X-4 Fox Live Valve edition

Hot off the heels of the Talon 1000X and 1000R 2-seat unveiling, Honda is “on the gas”, as they say, with new models being introduced at a feverish rate. Today, Big Red is uncovering their latest vehicles in the sport Talon lineup – the Talon 1000X-4 and the Talon 1000X-4 Fox Live Valve.

Yes, these are 4-seat models! Didn’t you ask for that like we did?! To say we are excited that Honda is releasing a 4-seat sport side-by-side this quickly would be an understatement. And, when you look at the specs, you’re going to be pleasantly surprised with how trail-capable this machine should be in stock form.

Both 4-seat models ride on the X-platform, meaning that they are 64” wide and feature dual a-arms up front and a 3-link trailing arm rear suspension. Powertrain comes in the form of the familiar 999cc parallel twin engine and the 6-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT). Interior wise, the 4-seat shares the same interior layout as their 2-seat brethren, but obviously with 2 additional seats and a stretched wheelbase. The 4-seat wheelbase now measures 116.4” (87.6” on the 2-seat X-model). The rear seats feature a stadium layout with a bit higher seating position that is also adjusted inward towards the center of the vehicle. These 2 features give the rear seat passengers an ideal view out of the front of the vehicle.

Two models are included in this 1000X-4 lineup. The 1000X-4 base model has all of the standard features that you would find on the 1000X 2-seater, but the 1000X-4 Fox Live Valve edition has a bit more going for it… First and foremost, the “Live Valve” moniker means that this vehicle has Fox’s proprietary in-cab compression adjustment system for the shocks. Drivers can select between Normal and Sport modes based on the terrain they are riding in and their individual driving style.

Bosch co-developed the control module that constantly monitors inputs from driver & machine, so the suspension is consistently performing at its highest level. In addition to the suspension enhancements on this machine, it also comes with electronic Launch Mode! Yes, you read that right…

After sitting in the rear seats and getting an up-close and personal look at these new 4-seat models, Honda did it right with these. The view out the back is superb, and the fit and finish is top notch, as you would expect with all Honda products. Even at 6’3” tall, my knees comfortably coddled the back of the front seats when I was sitting in the rear buckets, which are the same comfortable seats as the front. Overall 88% of the parts on the 4-seater are shared with those on the 2-seater, making these machine extremely similar. We love how rear seat passengers get well made half doors, window nets, cup holders, 12V outlet, and supported floor boards. Honda did a great job with this one!

You might be wondering where the 1000R-4 model is?! After talking with the Honda folks about a 4-seat version of the wider R-model, they weren’t ruling out the idea of this particular machine hitting the market. However, they clearly stated that they wanted to unleash the 4-seat X-model first. Whatever they decide to do in the future, you can bet that Honda will continue to stay on the gas – they indicated that they will continue to unveil product at this alarming rate!

Due out in the Fall, these 2020 4-seat Talon models are sure to continue the sales success that Honda has seen in the sport side-by-side segment in 2019. We look forward to driving this all-new model in the very near future! Stay tuned for a full video and ride review!

Talon 1000X-4

Based on the Talon 1000X two-seater but with a longer chassis and room for two more people, the Talon 1000X-4 features stadium rear seating that positions the back passengers inboard and higher than those in front, ensuring that everyone on board enjoys an engaging, social experience. Powered by a performance-tuned version of Honda’s proven 999cc four-valve Unicam® parallel-twin engine, the Talon 1000X-4 features a high-tech Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) that efficiently puts horsepower to the ground and gives drivers the ability to switch between drive modes—full automatic, a more spirited “Sport” automatic that holds higher rpm, and manual, with gear-changes accomplished via steering-column-mounted paddle shifters. (The paddle shifters can also be used to override the automatic modes.) FOX Podium Quick Switch 3 shocks allow fast and simple three-position adjustment, with 14.6 and 15.0 inches of travel, front and rear respectively. Of course other favorite Talon elements are carried over, including I-4WD traction-aiding technology, hill-start assist and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD).

Talon 1000X-4 FOX Live Valve

In expanding the Talon family to the four-seat market, Honda took the opportunity to introduce semi-active electronic suspension with the new Talon 1000X-4 FOX Live Valve. Sharing the same engine, frame and body as the other four-seat Talon, this flagship version benefits from a new collaboration between Honda, FOX and Bosch. The groundbreaking suspension system crunches data from a multitude of sensors and adjusts all four shocks 16 times per second for one of two drive-style choices (Normal and Sport). The result is an incredible ride and unmatched handling, with minimal body roll and stellar high-speed tracking in rough terrain. Front and rear travel are 14.4 and 15.0 inches, respectively. This model also comes standard with electronic Launch Mode for lightning-quick, full-throttle acceleration off the line.
