Nearly 80 miles of trails, winding in and out of deep, forested hollows and down long ridge tops. Situated about four miles southwest of Chadwick. Area contains a 12 square mile chunk of rough national forest land in Ozark country.
WHERE YOU MAY RIDE CHADWICK AND SUTTON BLUFF TRAILS – With a Forest Service permit*, you may ride on designated motorcycle and ATV trails at Chadwick Motorcycle and ATV Use Area in Christian County, and Sutton Bluff Motorcycle and ATV Use Area in Reynolds County. Sutton Bluff Motorcycle and ATV Use Area ALSO requires that you have a Reynolds County permit which can be obtained from the Centerville MO Courthouse if you ride the roads. Forest Service permits and brochures are available in Ava, Rolla, and Salem Forest Service offices, and at businesses near trail areas. *Daily permits sell for $5/day; annual permits are $35.

WHERE YOU MAY NOT RIDE ATVs are NOT permitted off road, or on any closed road or roads that are not physically numbered on the ground. (36 CFR 261.56). PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY - Travel only where motorized vehicles are permitted. - Respect the rights of hikers, campers, and others to enjoy theiractivities undisturbed. - Educate yourself by obtaining travel maps and regulations frompublic agencies, complying with signs and barriers, and asking owner's permission to cross private property. - Avoid streams, lake shores, meadows, muddy roads and trails,steep hillsides, wildlife and livestock. - Drive responsibly to protect the environment and preserveopportunities to enjoy your vehicle on wild lands. SAFETY FIRST! You are encouraged to take and use the following equipment every time you use your ATV: gloves and a helmet, eye protection, rain gear or cold weather equipment, maps, first aid kit, flashlight, and a fire extinguisher. It is also a good idea to take plenty of drinking water and snacks to last you for a hike in case you have to walk out after a breakdown. Remember, you can ride an ATV farther in one hour than you can walk in a day. Even if you're only planning a short ride, bring along some tools, a small tire pump, patch kit, tow strap, etc. A simple tool may be all you need to keep from walking. Forest Service roads are shared by hikers, horseback riders, mountain bikers, cars and trucks. Please use caution and courtesy when encountering another user. Enjoy your ride! |
WHERE YOU MAY RIDE OPEN FOREST SERVICE NUMBERED ROADS – You may ride on any open, numbered Forest Service Road incounties where ATV county permits are issued (see reverse for list) providing you abide by Missouri State motor vehicle regulations. Approximately half of the Missouri counties encompassing Mark Twain National Forest lands currently offer permits ( see reverse forlist). Riders with disabilities may have additional privileges. Please call one of our Offices for more information ( see reverse for list). Motorcycles and 4-wheel drive vehicles must meet MissouriState motor vehicle regulations to be allowed on open Forest Service numbered roads. MAPS: Mark Twain National Forest District/Visitor maps showing numbered Forest Service roads may be purchased at District offices for $9.00 each. USGS topographic maps are available for $6.00 each. Actual conditions on the ground may vary from the maps. Open Forest Service numbered roads will be physically numbered with a post or sign. Roads with no physically numbered post or sign may not be ridden or driven. To ride ATVs on numbered Forest Service Roads you must abideby Missouri State motor vehicle regulations (Mo. Statutes 304.013, 307.198, & 301.705 ). These regulations are summarized below: 1. ATVs may NOT be operated on state highways. In some counties, WITH a county permit, ATVs may be operated on county roads. 2. The vehicle operator must have a valid driver's license. Riders under 16 with a learner’s permit must be supervised by an adult. 3. A person under 18 years of age must wear an approved motorcycle helmet.4. ALL ATVs in Missouri must be registered with a state registration decal attached to the right front fork or frame. 5. No operator of an ATV is allowed to carry passengers unless ATV was designed by the manufacturer to carry passengers. 6. ATVs cannot be operated within any stream or river, except at designated stream crossings. 7. EVERY ATV must be equipped with:

Trails: Numerous trails leave the recreation areas for the motorcycle and ATV area. Most trails follow ridgetops or hollow bottoms; connecting trails cross side slopes. It's possible to plan a wide variety of full-loop trails without backtracking.
