Warning — Sand Hill Pit
To ensure safety of forest riders, portions of the Sand Hill Pit in the Tahuya State Forest may be temporarily closed for ORV use, as rock may be in the process of being removed from the pit.There are alternative sites to unload and access trails in the Forest during this temporary closure.Please take care as you ride near this area and follow all directional signs and notices.
Public Notice — Elfendahl Pass Staging Area
When parking, please occupy one space only. We are currently developing a parking plan for this area that involves designating some of the parking spaces for self-contained camping and other parking spaces for day use parking only. The gravel area above the paved lot is open to overflow parking and self-contained camping. Beginning May 1, these rules will be strictly enforced.
Closure Notice — Overland Trail over Mission Creek Bridge
The Overland Trail over Mission Creek Bridge in Tahuya State Forest is Temporarily Closed. To cross Mission Creek, use the Salmon Trail.
DNR is developing recreation plans for many areas in its care. Plans are developed with extensive involvement of local recreation groups and the public, many of whom also volunteer to help maintain trails and campgrounds, and clean up areas.
The Tahuya State Forest has become a destination for more than 200,000 recreationists each year to ride, hike, and camp.

* No reservations are needed for the following weekend holiday dates:
Memorial Day Weekend
Fourth of July Weekend
Labor Day Weekend
Gates open 9AM on the Wednesday before the holiday weekend and close 12-Noon the following Wednesday.
Sites are available on a first come first served basis
* All other dates require a reservation.
Tahuya River Horse Camp - Reservation required to camp
Kammenga Campground - Reservation required to camp
Camp Spillman - Reservation required to camp
Tahuya State Forest motorized multiple-use trails- open year-round unless posted otherwise
Mission Creek Trail head- open year-round
Elfendahl Pass Staging Area- open year-round, ‘self-contained camping’ allowed, no reservation required
Sand Hill Parking Area- open year-round, no camping allowed
Kammenga 4X4 Trail head- open year-round
Elfendahl Pass 4X4 Trail head- open year-round
(State lowland lake fishing season runs between April 24 and October 31, see WDFW fishing regulations)
- Aldrich Lake – Open April 15 - September 15 for fishing access and overnight camping.
- Howell Lake – Open April 15 - September 15 for fishing access and day use. Walk in only.
- Twin Lakes – Open April 15 - September 15 for fishing access and overnight camping. Walk in access only.
- Robbins Lake – Open April 15 - September 15 for fishing access and day use only.
New Trail Information
Red diamond indicates single track use only.
Blue diamond indicates two track use.
Yellow diamond indicates the 4x4 trail system.
Please use caution on all trails. Recent storms and management activities may produce hazardous conditions.
Timber Harvest is occurring on the Mission Creek trail. The trail may be closed or re-routed from time to time.
The four wheel drive trail head is closed for timber harvest. You can still enter the trail from the Goat Ranch road near Camp Spillman.
Other General Information
Motorized use after dark is not permitted. No overnight camping at the Sand Hill Gravel Pit or any other undesignated sites.
Always ride with a partner.
95% of all ORV accidents are speed related.
All ORV vehicles must display current ORV tags when using the trail system.
All ORV regulations are strictly enforced
